Dramatic, Italian-renaissance inspired
Brooklyn Cafe Hand-painted floral mural
Client: Volare, Park Slope
The Brief
This boutique café brought me on as a mural painter to add colour and joy to their large black feature wall. The owner envisioned ‘fluffy’ flowers, and I worked closely with them to create a painted flower mural that felt modern, dynamic, and full of life. One area I really wanted to explore in this mural painting was lighting. Since the business is Italian, we looked to Renaissance art for inspiration—drawn to its rich contrasts, highlights and pops of red. Taking this one step further and designing the flowers to look as though they are lit by the cafe’s own window. For a deeper dive, check out my blogs about the process behind the mural and how it came about.
